In a lighthearted showdown for the title of the largest chapter in the association, the San Antonio and North Texas chapters of ASA pulled out all the stops to outgrow each other in the 2023/24 fiscal year.
San Antonio, known for its rich history and vibrant culture, as well as growing population, loves a good competition. When they found out they were only 3 members behind North Texas in March, they immediately set out to challenge the northern chapter for the title of “Largest Chapter in the Nation.” The San Antonio board went to work to contact colleagues and associates in the industry and spread the word about why they needed to join ASA San Antonio. The next step was to get the membership engaged in recruiting. A contest was held within the chapter and anyone who brought in a new member was put into a drawing for a cash prize! The excitement was contagious as members would reach out asking for updates on who was in the lead. The San Antonio membership is already asking if the competition will continue for the new year!
Meanwhile, North Texas, with its sprawling cities and cowboy spirit, is always up for a good challenge – especially from their friends down south. Like the San Antonio board, the North Texas board created a challenge amongst themselves. Not only did they want bragging rights for being the “Largest Chapter in the Nation” but they wanted to be the “Biggest in Texas”. You know the ol’ saying “Everything is Bigger in Texas”. The last day of the competition was so exciting, and even though it was a Sunday, both chapters were getting new members. It was back and forth all day with who was in the lead until almost 11:00 pm. Glad San Antonio presented the challenge that not only benefits our chapters, but ASA as a whole, to have so many GREAT new members. As for next year and another challenge…GAME ON!
Despite the playful rivalry, the competition has fostered a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration between the chapters. Both chapters engaged in friendly banter on social media, exchanging humorous jabs and sharing memes that highlight the best of their respective regions. The friendly competition has not only energized the members but has also brought attention to the association, showcasing the fun and community spirit that comes with being a part of it.
When everyone wins, it’s a fun time for all.
And in Texas, where EVERYTHING’s bigger, getting bragging rights to being the biggest WITHIN the state is a HUGE win.
