Dear Readers –
My year is up and it’s been an amazing ride!
What a privilege to have served such a tremendous organization and work with such awesome people. The best part is all the friends I have made and the love we share with each other and for the great work of the association.
Thank you for having the confidence in me, and your support throughout the years! There are some incredible people out there that I am SO glad are on our team. We have the awards each year to recognize these amazing folks, but there are so many unsung heroes.
I’m passing the President’s baton to Brad Miller of Midwest Crane & Rigging in Olathe, Kansas. You’ll be hearing from him in July. He’s been knee deep in ASA since…longer than I can remember…, so I thank him for stepping into this role.
Not that I had a major hand in these activities, but I do want to brag about our accomplishments during the past year:
- Texas legal win with the help of the Subcontractors Legal Defense Fund – On May 19th, the Texas Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of Pepper-Lawson Horizon International Group and against Texas Southern University. Read the details here.
- Relaunching our Congressional Fly-In, which had been on hiatus for the past few years. Not sure I can find the superlatives to describe what it felt like to just be in this hallowed building – let alone talking with 50 (!) U.S. representatives, and really feeling like they’re listening to us, and that we’re making an impact.
- Health Care – ASAdvantage has just partnered with World Insurance to offer this new benefit to ASA members. I’ll probably be signing up for it. It’s a great package.
- FASA Relaunch – The Foundation of the American Subcontractors Association (FASA) has a mission to benefit the entire industry, working for equitable contracts, safe working conditions, and a viable and educated workforce.
- Resource Documents – Retainage laws, price escalation and force majeure, drafting ASA Disaster assistance document, negotiating tips. All members have access to these resources. Don’t forget to use them.
- Over 85% Member Retention Rate for the past four years – with the increased costs of…EVERYTHING…relating to construction, we’re proud to still be a “must” when considering value.
So Brad – I know you’ll do amazing things in the coming year to make our industry stronger than ever. ASA has a valuable mission: “Better Construction Through Fair Construction.” Simple, understandable, and always adapting with our changing world. Let’s DO IT! TOGETHER!

President, ASA 2022-23
