Greetings fellow members and friends of ASA,

I am not sure how fast the blink of an eye technically is, but in figurative terms, it is synonymous with the year 2024. I am also not sure how fast this year has been for you all, but for me it has come and gone “in the blink of an eye”. And I don’t mean the “long blink” when you fall asleep during a boring meeting, get caught napping and then have to explain that you were just blinking your eyes. LOL!

I hope that for all of you, 2024 has been a GREAT year. It has been a trying year at times and a victorious year as well. It has been a year in which we found our country divided because of a presidential election. It has been a year in which the USA participated in the Olympic Games and came out on top, once again, in the medal count. It has been a year in which technology has transcended its never ending limits. It has been a year in which doing things “the old school way” can still work and sometimes is more personal and welcomed. A phone call, a handshake, fist bump or hug, an “in person” meeting or other such means of communication can be refreshing once in a while.

This month’s issue focuses on innovations and adaptations in the construction industry, including articles on how the Environment, Health & Safety aspect of construction will continue to evolve as we enter 2025, and how we incorporate AI into our work environment through smart wearables, forecasting, etc.

I wish to invite you to consider attending our ASA Think Tank meeting in San Antonio in early February. Our last one in Seattle in September was a huge success and we offer this to all of our members. If you have not attended one in the past, this is a great opportunity to do so. And if you have attended, you know how it is a wealth of information and we hope to see you return to the one in February. I hope to see many of you there. It’s not too early to start planning now.

As we approach the end of 2024, this might be a great time to reflect on what has worked well for you and also what changes you may want to make for 2025. For most of us we always wish to start the new year on a fresh beginning and put aside the things that didn’t necessarily work for us in the past. I think if we focus on the most important things, we can move forward with excitement and anticipation of what lies ahead for us.

I want to personally wish each and every one of you a very Happy Holiday Season. And no matter how you celebrate the Holidays, be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other way of celebrating, I hope this joyous time of year brings you peace, joy, happiness and a time of fulfillment with family and friends. I pray for your safe travels if you will be traveling to spend time with loved ones. I hope that you have a blessed time and I wish for you a Happy New Year as we welcome in 2025. And please pray for peace and an end to violence, war, hunger and loneliness.
