Dear Readers:
At the top of my mind right now is SUBExcel—it’s only a few weeks away, and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing so many of you again. Can you believe it’s been nearly a year and a half? This year’s program is packed with incredible sessions—AI, strategic planning, marketing, finance, and more. These aren’t just topics we chose; they’re the ones you asked for. We’ve found experts ready to share practical insights and lessons learned, and I know it’s going to be valuable for everyone.
If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time. We’re always thrilled to welcome new attendees, and if it’s been a while since your last SUBExcel, I can promise you we’ve only grown bigger and better. Don’t wait—join us! SUBExcel has personally had many impacts on my professional and personal career in many ways. I can assure you that the personal gains will far exceed any monetary investments into SUBExcel.
On another note, we recently held our kickoff call for a finance-focused, multi-week curriculum designed for our members. If you’re a CPA and would like to be part of shaping this program from the ground up, there’s still an opportunity to get involved. Reach out to Richard Bright for details.
I also want to recognize our Director of Government Relations, Mike Oscar, who recently partnered with the National Glass Association to deliver a webinar on the latest legislative, political, and regulatory developments impacting subcontractors and the glazing industry. Mike continues to ensure that the voice of small businesses is heard loud and clear in Washington, and we are grateful for his leadership.
As the government fiscal year begins to wrap up, we can assure you that the FY26 NDAA will be front and center for the coming weeks or months. Mike and his team will be busy with a flurry of last minute changes, additions, and amendments to this bill so he will be focused on monitoring the traffic throughout the house and senate as they continue to draft this language.
This month’s issue of Contractor’s Compass zeroes in on strengthening contracts—what to look out for, and what to include. We’ve featured three legal articles, each highlighting a different contract element to give you practical takeaways.
And finally, as schools get underway across the country, let’s all remember to watch for buses, students, and the morning chaos that comes with a new school year.
The next time I write, SUBExcel will already be behind us. Until then, I look forward to seeing many of you in Oklahoma City.
Stay safe, stay well—
