For more than 25 years, Skip Daum has been the main face of the American Subcontractors Association (ASA) in California. While his renowned wit and sparkling personality, not to mention the amazing achievements on behalf of ASA of California, will be missed, there is no way to measure our partnership as anything other than a resounding success.
With ASA of California, Skip was a trusted advisor, discussing the workings and procedure for every bill. He battled tirelessly for SB 293, to include caps on retentions and subcontractors’ late bond claim rights, finally persuading the author to amend his bill.
A former US Air Force Navigator, Skip was retained by numerous (more than 35 definitely counts as “numerous”) non-profit trade and professional associations during his 50-year career (word-of-mouth advertising at its best). What made Skip so effective was not just his ready wit and knowledge of the lobbying process, but his ability to listen, understand, and conceive a way for BOTH sides to win – if possible.
Of course, you don’t succeed unless you know, love and really understand how people click.
That’s where Skip excelled. Always professional and polite, he was respected and liked by legislators, their staff, and had unparalleled access to them, as they knew Skip would be fair, honest and would work with them to draft the fairest bill possible.
“ASA has had the pleasure of working with Skip Daum for over 25 years and the positive impact he has had for subcontractor rights is unmeasurable.” stated Richard Bright, Chief Executive Officer of ASA.
After an exhaustive search process, the American Subcontractors Association of California (ASAC) has retained the lobbying firm of McHugh Koepke Padron Government Relations (MKP). ASAC is excited about forging a working relationship with MKP, relying on their advocacy expertise for associations and other non-profit organizations.
“We have our fingers crossed that we’ll have another 25-year relationship with MKP, like we did with Skip Daum. While we’re all going to miss Skip, and it will take many people to fill his shoes, we’re excited about the possibilities with MKP, and look forward to a successful partnership,” stated Richard Bright, Chief Executive Officer of ASA.
Shari McHugh of MKP added, “We know Skip, and we’re honored that ASAC chose us to take on the interests of subcontractors and suppliers in California. We have the experience and energy to successfully represent their interests and concerns to the legislators.”
