Dear ASA Members,
We are currently surrounded by greens turning to oranges and reds, which can only mean one thing; Autumn is in the air! These new colors come with new beginnings and transitions, and all of us at ASA are incredibly excited for what is on the horizon. 2020 has been a year like none other, and as we enter the fourth quarter of the year I hope you are as excited as I am for what the future has in store.
I am thrilled to share that our ASA Vice President, Brian Carroll, participated in the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Surety Guarantees’ (SBAOSG) Surety Program 50th Anniversary Conference on Friday, September 25th, 2020. The SBAOSG offers guaranteed surety bonds to help small businesses in the construction, supply, and service sectors better compete for contracting and subcontracting jobs. Brian’s presence at the event provided the opportunity for him to bring forward ideas important to ASA’s members, such as ways for the SBA to place a greater emphasis on advances in technology that increase subcontractor participation. He also discussed how the SBAOSG Program should engage with and create awareness among subcontractors, as well as collaborative initiatives that ASA would like to see with the SBA Program.
As always, the ASA leadership is consistently hard at work fighting for the needs of ASA members and the entire subcontracting family, and I am immensely proud of the work that Vice President Carroll is doing every day.
Our Virtual Attorneys Council Meeting earlier this month was a huge success, and I want to personally thank each of you who participated. Our member attorneys continue to provide such a valuable resource to our subcontractor community – from the compilation of an updated nationwide retainage law guidebook, to their input and insight into COVID-related legal issues for our members throughout the pandemic. While this year’s meeting wasn’t the same as our usual lively event, much was accomplished and everyone who attended made it a stellar gathering of members who are working harder than ever on future needs of the subcontracting community.
I look forward to the time when we can all be together in person soon. Until then, I challenge all of you to grow your businesses and share your successes with each other as ASA members, even if it is in a virtual setting. We all succeed when the industry is strong, and I’m more excited than ever to see what tomorrow brings.
God Bless,Brian Cooper
ASA President 2020-2021
